An Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has sentenced a man, Friday Samuel, to three years imprisonment for stealing cable wires valued at two million naira.

Samuel was prosecuted by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, on charges bordering on theft and destruction of government property.

The prosecution counsel, P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 17, 2026, around 2:43 a.m. at the Old Garage area of Akure.

Nwafor explained that the defendant unlawfully stole and damaged armoured transformer cable wires worth N2,000,000 belonging to the Ondo State Government.

According to the prosecutor, the offences violated Sections 383, 390(9), and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him before the court.

Following the guilty plea, the prosecutor urged the court to impose a punishment that would discourage others from engaging in similar criminal acts.

In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni sentenced Samuel to three calendar years imprisonment on each of the two counts without an option of fine, adding that the jail terms would run concurrently.
