A 28-year-old man, Aina Ayotomide, has confessed to stealing a motorcycle in Ado Ekiti in an attempt to recover ₦130,000 he lost while gambling on a betting platform. The money, he said, had been entrusted to him by his sister.

Ayotomide was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, on September 10 in the Agbogbo area of Akure while trying to sell a wine-coloured Bajaj motorcycle.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, said the suspect admitted to stealing the bike from the Nova School area in Ado Ekiti before transporting it to Akure for sale.

The owner of the motorcycle, Mr. Amire Tope, has since recovered his property after being notified by the NSCDC.

In a separate incident, the command also paraded a 30-year-old suspect, Tope Andrew of Olorunsogo, Yaba, Ondo, who was arrested on August 24. He is accused of breaking into a residence at Adebayo Compound in GRA, Ondo Town, and stealing solar lights, panels, and iron scraps.

According to Aidamenbor, Andrew confessed to the crime and had intended to sell the stolen items.

Both suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
