Manchester City lead Premier League table with 3-0 win over West Ham

Manchester City temporarily claimed the top spot in the Premier League on Saturday after a commanding 3-0 victory against West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium.
City set the tone early, with Erling Haaland opening the scoring in just the fifth minute. Phil Foden’s precise cross found Haaland in the box, and after his first shot was blocked, he fired high past Alphonse Areola to make it 1-0.
The Blues extended their lead in the 38th minute through Tijjani Reijnders, who capitalised on a slick move initiated by Rayan Cherki and assisted by Haaland to slot the ball into the net, putting City 2-0 ahead at halftime.
West Ham improved after the break, testing Gianluigi Donnarumma with a double save, while Jarrod Bowen came close on a couple of occasions. However, a City substitution midway through the second half proved decisive. Savinho’s pass found Rico Lewis, whose touch set up Haaland for his second goal of the match, sealing the 3-0 win.
The victory marked City’s seventh consecutive win in all competitions and took Haaland’s tally for the season to 25 goals. Rayan Cherki’s dazzling display of skill and his understanding with Haaland and Foden drew particular praise, showcasing the team’s attacking prowess.
Manager Pep Guardiola highlighted both the team’s defensive improvement and areas for further growth in possession, while Reijnders expressed delight at scoring and the team’s strong momentum in the title race.
With 41 goals scored so far this season, City now lead the Premier League standings, albeit temporarily, ahead of Arsenal’s later fixture against Everton. The Blues will next travel to Nottingham Forest on 27 December, seeking to maintain their winning streak.
