Massive crowd as Oriyomi Hamzat steps into Oyo politics

A massive crowd converged on the Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, on Saturday as popular broadcaster and philanthropist, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, formally declared his political ambition.

Thousands of supporters arrived at the historic stadium early in the day, filling the main bowl and surrounding areas of the venue.

The large turnout led to heavy human and vehicular traffic around Oke Ado and adjoining parts of the Ibadan metropolis.

Hamzat’s declaration ceremony drew participants from across Oyo State, including youth groups, community leaders, artisans and other supporters, many of whom were mobilised by his long-standing humanitarian efforts and influence in the media space.

The atmosphere at the stadium was festive, marked by music, chants and banners expressing solidarity with Hamzat and support for his political aspirations.

Supporters described the impressive turnout as a testament to his growing grassroots appeal across the state.

Security personnel were on ground to maintain law and order, while event organisers coordinated crowd control measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.

Although details of his political agenda have yet to be fully disclosed, the declaration is widely seen as a significant step toward the 2027 Oyo State governorship race, signalling the beginning of heightened political activities in the state.
