Max Air halts domestic operations for three months after Kano airport incident

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that Max Air will suspend its domestic flight operations for three months, starting from January 31, 2025, following an incident involving one of the airline’s Boeing 737-400 aircraft at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on January 28, 2025.

The aircraft, with registration 5N-MBD, was involved in the incident while landing at approximately 10:51 PM.

In accordance with regulations, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the occurrence. The NCAA has confirmed that it will provide full support to NSIB during the course of the investigation.

Max Air’s decision to suspend flights comes as part of its internal review of operations. The airline stated that the suspension would allow it to assess its procedures and ensure the safety of its services.

During the three-month suspension, the NCAA will carry out a comprehensive safety and economic audit of Max Air.

The safety audit will include a re-inspection of the airline’s operations, personnel, and aircraft, while the economic audit will examine the airline’s financial health to ensure its ability to maintain safe operations.

The NCAA stated that Max Air’s domestic flight services will only resume after the audits are completed and the airline meets the required safety standards.

While the suspension may cause inconvenience for passengers, the NCAA stressed that the safety and well-being of travelers remains the top priority.

The authority is urging passengers to be patient and understanding as it works to safeguard air travel safety.
