NBBF rolls out programme for 2025

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has unveiled a comprehensive programme of activities for 2025, following its board meeting earlier in January.

The activities, ratified by the NBBF board under the leadership of President Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, have been dubbed ‘Consolidation Time’ by stakeholders and enthusiasts alike.

Starting from February 5–9, 2025, the Nigeria Senior Female Basketball team, D’Tigress, will compete in a friendly invitational tournament in Belarus. From February 17–25, 2025, the D’Tigers will participate in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers in Tripoli, Libya.

March 2025 will feature the first phase of the NBBF Divisions 1 & 2 for the 2024 season, along with the finals for the same divisions. The first phase of the Women’s Zenith Bank League Division 1 will also take place. Also, the NBBF Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Stakeholders Forum are set for February or March, with the venue to be announced.

April 2025 kicks off with the 5th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), where Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers will compete alongside 11 other teams across various locations including Rabat (Morocco), Dakar (Senegal), Kigali (Rwanda), and Pretoria (South Africa).

In April, there will also be refresher courses for Technical Officials in Lagos and Abuja. The first phase of the NBBF Men’s Premier Basketball League will take place across the country, alongside the first phase of the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League, divided into two conferences.

From May to June 2025, the programme will include the first phase of the U19 Girls National Camps, both in Nigeria and the USA, in preparation for the World Championship. This will be followed by the National U16 & U18 Boys and Girls Championship. The NBBF Board Meeting will also occur during this period.

In addition, the second phase of the NBBF Men’s Premier Basketball League and the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League will take place, alongside national camps for U16 boys and girls, and the FIBA Zone 3 U16 African Championship qualifiers for both boys and girls.

Between July and August 2025, D’Tigress will open camps in Nigeria and the USA in preparation for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025. The National U19 Girls team will also be in action during this period. From July 25 to August 3, 2025, D’Tigress will compete in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket. Additionally, the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League Conference Finals will take place.

The FIBA Men’s AfroBasket 2025 will be held from August 12–24, 2025, in Luanda, Angola, with the NBBF Men’s Premier League Conference Finals and the FIBA African U16 Championship (Boys & Girls) also scheduled for this period.

September 2025 will feature the finals of the State Preliminaries for the Total National Division 2 Championship, along with the NBBF Men’s Basketball League Final 8 and Zenith Bank National Division 1 female national league eliminations.

In October 2025, the NBBF Board Meeting will take place, along with the Zenith Bank Women’s Premier League Finals. The first phase of the BAL Qualifiers and FIBA Africa 3 AWBL Qualifiers will also occur.

The final months of 2025 will see the Total National Divisions 1 & 2 League Divisional Playoffs, along with the knockout phase of the 2027 FIBA Men’s World Cup.

In December, the Total National Division 2 Conference Playoffs, Elite 16 BAL Qualifiers, FIBA AWBL 2025 Finals, and the Total National Division 1 & 2 League Finals will take place. The year will conclude with the NBBF AGM, Awards Night, and Board Meeting.
