McU hosts global conference on accounting’s future in AI-driven world

The Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association, McPherson University Chapter, hosted its Accounting and Finance Impact Global Conference on Thursday to examine the fate of accounting in a world run through Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The event, held at the University’s campus, brought together students, academics, and industry professionals to discuss emerging trends in the discipline.

Themed “Beyond the Ledger: Exploring the Impact of AI and Emerging Technologies on the Future of Accounting,” the conference featured several notable speakers, including Bodunde Victor, Babatunde Lawal, Tolulope Seun Ahmed, and Wisdom Kumuyi, who shared insights on innovation and digital transformation.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Francis Igbasan, Professor Olubunmi Ajibade
noted that Accounting and Finance remains a flagship programme of the university, adding that many students obtain professional qualifications before graduation due to the quality of teaching.

Furthermore, he highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors, including accounting, and urged stakeholders to proactively adapt to technological changes.

Ajibade ended his remarks by reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and professional development.

In his presentation, the Former Dean, College of Postgraduate Studies in McU, Professor Lawal, emphasised the need for professionals to keep pace with emerging technologies, noting that tools such as blockchain are shaping modern accounting practices while calling for stronger regulatory frameworks.

Meanwhile, the conference also featured an interactive panel session where participants engaged speakers through questions and discussions, gaining deeper understanding of the evolving future of accounting and finance.
