Meghan Markle opens up about her Nigerian heritage

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, married to Prince Harry, King Charles II second son has spoken candidly about her Nigerian background.
During a speech on women in leadership, the duchess disclosed that her ancestry revealed she was born in Nigeria.
“Every single moment that I hear anyone talk about what it means to be a Nigerian woman, it is the most flattering thing to be in that company,” she told the audience.
“Never in a million years will I understand as much as I do now being here. And what’s been echoed so much really in the past day by men and women alike is that ‘Are you not surprised we found out you are Nigerian?’”
She stated that the terms used to characterize a Nigerian woman such as “brave, resilient, courageous, powerful and beautiful” are not surprising.
Meghan continued by saying that realizing that she doesn’t just know her ancestry but also that this is only the beginning of her discovery has been humble and eye-opening.
