Mohbad’s father raises concerns over legitimacy of DNA testing in paternity case

Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has raised concerns over the legitimacy of the DNA testing centres designated to confirm paternity for Mohbad’s son.
In a video shared via Tik Tok on Saturday, Aloba disclosed that his legal counsel informed him that both the centre appointed by the Lagos State Social Welfare Officer and the one selected by the lawyer representing Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, may not be legitimate. He urged the Lagos State government to intervene, emphasising that the DNA test is critical before finalising burial arrangements for the late singer.
Oladayo Ogungbe, counsel representing the Aloba family in the proceedings at the Magistrate Court of Ikorodu, disclosed that two of the three laboratories approved by the court have stated that they do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing on embalmed bodies. Mohbad, who passed away in September 2023, had been embalmed, which makes this issue particularly significant.
On 24 February 2026, Magistrate B.A. Sonuga directed that the paternity test be conducted in three laboratories mutually agreed upon by the parties and the court. The Social Welfare Officer was tasked with supervising the collection and handling of samples to ensure transparency.
The laboratories involved are DNA Diagnostics Centre, Fairfield, Ohio, United States (submitted by the applicant); Alpha Bio Labs, Warrington, United Kingdom (submitted by the respondent); and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, London, United Kingdom (independently selected by the court).
Ogungbe explained that preliminary inquiries revealed Alpha Bio Labs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited do not have the capacity to conduct post-mortem DNA analysis from embalmed tissue samples, raising concerns about the validity of the process.
“The DNA test is crucial not only for confirming my grandson’s paternity but also for ensuring that Mohbad’s final burial arrangements proceed correctly. I appeal to the Lagos State government to ensure the integrity of this process is protected,” said Mr. Aloba.
While thanking those who have supported the family’s efforts to ensure justice is served, he also refuted online claims suggesting that he sought financial assistance from artiste Naira Marley and socialite VDM to pay rent, clarifying that he is a landlord and does not require support.
