Tinubu vows tougher action on insecurity, urges governors to protect vulnerable Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across Nigeria, stating that the challenge will not derail ongoing efforts to support vulnerable citizens.
The President made this known on Sunday in Lagos while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors at his residence during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. He said security concerns were a major focus of his recent engagements in the United Kingdom and discussions with international partners.
Tinubu disclosed that part of his talks abroad centred on securing modern security equipment and international support to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. He also revealed that he recently held discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron on possible collaboration.
According to him, insecurity remains a major obstacle to national development and prosperity.
“The next phase of our struggle is the challenge of insecurity in the country. Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress and prosperity,” the President said.
He added that his government is working to strengthen international partnerships necessary to address the problem, including reaching out to other countries for support.
The President and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu had returned to Nigeria on Friday after a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where they were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Tinubu also met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the visit.
Tinubu also warned that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East could worsen global inflation and affect Nigeria’s purchasing power, urging proactive measures to cushion the impact on citizens.
