Moroccan fans’ protest threatens WAFCON 2026

The 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is facing uncertainty following a growing campaign by Moroccan football supporters calling for the country to withdraw from hosting African competitions.

The protest is linked to recent decisions of the CAF Disciplinary Committee over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal, which many Moroccan fans believe were unjust and biased against Morocco.

The rulings have sparked widespread outrage, with supporters accusing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of setting a dangerous precedent that could encourage teams to walk out of matches without severe consequences.

As part of the backlash, sections of Moroccan fans have begun urging the Moroccan Football Federation and the government to reconsider Morocco’s role as a regular host of major CAF tournaments, including both men’s and women’s competitions.

In statements circulating on social media, protesters warned that Morocco should stop hosting African competitions, insist on proper stadium standards, formally notify CAF of its withdrawal as a fallback host, and pull out any Moroccan team that faces unfair treatment abroad.
