Muhammad Babangida accepts BOA chairmanship, debunks rejection rumors
Muhammad Babangida has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
In a statement issued on Monday, Babangida debunked widespread online reports claiming he had rejected the appointment, describing them as false and malicious attempts to mislead the public and smear the Tinubu administration.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammad gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read.
He emphasized his commitment to the responsibilities of the role and stated that efforts were underway to identify and hold accountable those behind the disinformation.
“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation,” it added.
The statement urged Nigerians to be cautious and verify news from credible and official sources, particularly on matters of national interest.
Muhammad Babangida’s appointment was among a wave of recent leadership changes approved by President Tinubu aimed at reforming key government institutions.
Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, is expected to bring private-sector experience and international exposure to reposition the BOA for enhanced agricultural development and rural prosperity.
