Musawa hails Zuma Film Festival as catalyst for creative economy expansion
The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, has hailed the Zuma International Film Festival (ZIFF) as a major catalyst for the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy.
Speaking at the 2025 ZIFF World Press Briefing on Monday in Abuja, Musawa described Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood, as a vital contributor to national development and a reflection of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
She said the festival remains a premier event designed to grow Nigeria’s cinema industry, strengthen investment, and showcase the nation’s storytelling prowess.

“Through the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the film and audio-visual sector has maintained steady growth as a key driver of Nigeria’s creative economy, youth empowerment, and global investment appeal,” Musawa stated.
The minister described the festival’s theme, “Storytelling for Global Influence: Film as a Soft Power and Economic Force,” as timely and reflective of Nigeria’s growing global presence in the creative space.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Dr. Ali Nuhu, revealed that this year’s festival received over 3,156 film submissions from countries including Nigeria, India, France, China, and the United States.

Nuhu said ZIFF has evolved into a global platform celebrating storytellers, filmmakers, and audiences who bring African narratives to life. He commended partners, sponsors, and the media for their continued support, which he said has contributed to the festival’s sustained growth.
The 2025 Zuma International Film Festival will hold in Abuja from December 1 to 5, featuring categories such as Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Documentary, and Best Foreign Film, aimed at promoting Nigeria’s creative economy, creating jobs, and empowering youth.
