Ondo government distributes cartons of sanitary pads to schoolgirls

The Ondo State Government has distributed 5,000 cartons of sanitary pads to schoolgirls across the 18 local government areas to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Dr Seun Osamaye, who led the presentation in Akure, said the initiative reflected Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to promoting menstrual hygiene and empowering girls across the state.

Speaking on the theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis”, Osamaye said the programme tagged “Tech a Girl; Pad a Girl Child” was designed to combine digital empowerment with menstrual hygiene awareness.

She noted that the event aimed to ensure every girl could manage her period with dignity while also preparing them for opportunities in the digital era.

“Girls are not just beneficiaries of development or victims, but powerful drivers of change, creating a better and safer world,” Osamaye said, commending partners and volunteers supporting girl-child empowerment.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to quality education while urging girls to pursue excellence.

Also, Mrs Aarinola Adamolekun of the State Hospital Management Board and SITA Chairman, Mr Tomide Akinribido, educated the students on hygiene and digital skills, respectively.
