Musawa pays tribute to late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has paid tribute to veteran Nigerian actor, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as “Ogogo”, describing him as a towering figure in the Nigerian film industry.

Musawa, who expressed grief over Hassan’s death, said his discipline, talent and dedication helped shape Nollywood and inspire generations of actors, directors and producers.

The minister said Hassan was not only a celebrated actor but also a custodian of Nigerian culture and a strong voice for Yoruba storytelling.

“Ogogo was not just a star on our screens. He was a custodian of our culture, a proud voice of Yoruba storytelling, and a man who dedicated his life to building the Nigerian creative industry,” she said.

Musawa said Hassan’s works helped project Yoruba culture and Nigeria’s rich traditions to audiences across the country and beyond, adding that his contributions made him a source of pride to the nation’s creative economy.

“His works celebrated our heritage and projected the richness of our traditions to the world. The industry has lost a giant, but his legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the films he left behind,” she added.

The minister, on behalf of the ministry, the creative community and stakeholders across the arts and culture sector, commiserated with Hassan’s family, colleagues in Nollywood, fans and the people of Ogun State.

She prayed that the Almighty God would grant the deceased’s family and the film industry the strength to bear the loss and grant his soul eternal rest.
