Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has committed to collaborating with her predecessor, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, to raise awareness and advance Nigeria’s tourism sector.

During a formal handover ceremony at her office in Abuja, Musawa praised Ade-John’s contributions to the ministry.

“In Honourable Minister Lola Ade-John, I found a sister and a friend. We began this journey almost identically, facing similar challenges. The role presented numerous difficulties, and we agreed early on to work together, as our ministries were closely connected.

“This moment is bittersweet. Sweet, because I see progress not only within the industry but in tourism itself, giving us a unique opportunity to create something meaningful for Nigeria and the sector. Yet, it’s bitter for me to see someone who has worked so tirelessly unable to complete her journey,” Musawa said.

She assured Ade-John that her efforts would be recognized and that her legacy in the tourism industry would continue.

“I promise you, everything you started, you will be credited for. When I announce your initiatives, I will ensure the administration, the President, and the entire industry know that this is your work being presented.”

Ade-John expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and extended her support to Musawa.

“I would like to acknowledge the fantastic support I received from the Directors-General, Heads of Departments, and my aides. I especially thank the Minister, my sister, who was the only one to visit me at home after my recovery in the UK.

“I pledge to support her in advancing the tourism industry, which is vast. I will also seek support from industry stakeholders to assist her.”

The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Patricia Ibiene Roberts, OON, the Directors-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, as well as ministry directors and the Minister’s aides.
