N319bn assets, 162 lives saved in three months — FFS

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) says it preserved assets worth more than N319.5 billion and rescued 162 people across Nigeria in the first quarter of 2025.
The data was contained in the agency’s Q1 operational report, released on Monday during a national joint security press briefing at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) headquarters in Abuja.
According to the report, the service responded to 544 fire incidents nationwide between January and March, a slight decline from the previous quarter. It noted an improvement in urban response time, which dropped from 15 minutes to 10 minutes.
The FFS attributed the gains to operational upgrades that also enabled quick medical intervention for victims. It said the progress reflected a stronger commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
On capacity development, the service said it continued the accelerated remodelling of the National Fire Academy to provide world-class training facilities for personnel. It also launched the first-ever Chief Superintendent Development Course for 106 officers, which has now become a prerequisite for promotion.
In a bid to tackle fire-related road accidents, the FFS deepened its collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), rolled out a nationwide fire extinguisher integrity enforcement programme, and strategically stationed fire engines on high-risk highways.
The agency renewed its partnership with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to improve fuel tanker safety and enforce stricter compliance in the downstream oil sector.
The FFS pledged to keep raising fire safety standards, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and improve emergency response capacity to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians.
