The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake, expired, and banned drugs and products worth ₦15 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking during the exercise on Thursday, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the destruction was aimed at safeguarding public health and ensuring that only safe and effective products remain in circulation.
Represented by the agency’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Martins Iluyomade, Adeyeye explained that the items destroyed included counterfeit, unregistered, and prohibited drugs such as Analgin, Cocodamol, codeine-based cough syrups, tramadol, oxytocin, and various categories of vaccines.
She stressed that the destruction of the products would prevent their possible re-entry into the Nigerian market.
“NAFDAC remains resolutely committed to ensuring that foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, packaged water, and drinks are safe, wholesome, and effective for human consumption,” she added.
