NANS commends Tinubu for releasing varsity staff’s N50bn earned allowances

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for releasing ₦50 billion to settle the long-standing earned allowances owed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other non-academic staff unions in federal universities.

President of NANS, Comrade Olusola Oladoja, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Union’s Spokesman, Samson Ajasa Adeyemi, said that the gesture by the President reaffirmed his recognition of the critical role of educators and university staff in shaping the future of our great nation.

Oladoja stated that the bold and commendable action was not only a testament to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda but also a clear demonstration of his unwavering commitment to the revitalisation of Nigeria’s education sector.

“As the official body representing millions of Nigerian students home and abroad, we view this development as a monumental step toward restoring trust, sustaining uninterrupted academic calendars, and fostering an enabling environment for academic excellence. Mr. President’s prioritisation of youth development through strategic educational investment is a signal of hope for a brighter, more productive future,” he stated.

The NANS President noted that the present academic stability being enjoyed in universities is a direct result of purposeful leadership, open dialogue, and shared commitment between the government and relevant stakeholders.

Oladoja called on the leadership of ASUU and other non-academic staff unions to continue in this spirit of cooperation and progress, as everyone works towards a tertiary education system that is not just stable but globally competitive.

“NANS reaffirms its readiness to continue constructive engagement with all stakeholders in the education sector and will remain a committed partner in ensuring the interest and welfare of Nigerian students remain paramount. Once again, we say thank you, Mr. President, for listening, for acting, and for believing in Nigerian students,” he stated.
