NANS lauds Tinubu’s student-friendly policies, loan scheme

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Friday commended President Bola Tinubu for policies aimed at improving education and supporting students, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which has helped over 900,000 students remain in school.

The endorsement came during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the State House, where student leaders praised the administration’s efforts to stabilize tertiary education and enhance student welfare.

Gbajabiamila reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education, describing it as a cornerstone of the Tinubu administration.

He urged student leaders to support government initiatives by advocating against social vices on campuses, including drug abuse, cultism, and prostitution. “Universities and colleges are not only centres of academic learning but also institutions for character moulding,” he said.

He also highlighted sustained dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has helped maintain nearly three years without a nationwide strike, restoring stability to the university system.

The Chief of Staff applauded NANS for its constructive engagement and encouraged students to make moral reorientation a part of campus culture. He described the student loan scheme as a key initiative that is keeping indigent students in school and ensuring academic continuity.

Senior Special Assistant on Student Engagement, Sunday Asefon, also emphasized the administration’s focus on predictable academic calendars, security interventions, and continuous engagement with student bodies.

NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, hailed the Tinubu administration for “unprecedented support for Nigerian students,” noting that many four-year courses are now being completed on schedule. He praised the government’s engagement with ASUU, the implementation of the student loan scheme, and security measures such as perimeter fencing for vulnerable campuses.
