Emmanuel Uduaghan, husband of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has revealed that his wife has repeatedly expressed concerns about harassment from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, despite his personal efforts to address the issue.
Natasha, the senator representing Kogi Central, publicly accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and victimization on Friday.
In an interview with ARISE NEWS, she alleged that during a visit to Akpabio’s residence in Akwa Ibom, he made inappropriate advances toward her.
She claimed that after rejecting his advances, Akpabio obstructed her legislative efforts, particularly motions concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
In response, Akpabio’s wife, Unoma Akpabio, dismissed the allegations, stating that both families had shared a cordial relationship for years and suggesting that the claims were baseless.
Following this, Akpoti-Uduaghan advised Mrs. Akpabio to stay out of the matter, emphasizing that the allegations were personal to the Senate President and that he should defend himself.
In a statement on Saturday, Uduaghan said he initially refrained from commenting on the dispute but was now compelled to speak due to recent developments.
“Certain sentiments are being stirred unnecessarily, distracting from the serious allegations at hand. My wife was duly elected by her people and is committed to delivering quality representation. She is a devoted wife, and our bond is unwavering,” Uduaghan stated.
The businessman explained that, as a traditional leader, he values peace and harmony and had personally met with Akpabio to seek a respectful resolution to his wife’s complaints.
“I considered the Senate President a family friend and approached the matter with maturity. I met with him and respectfully urged him to extend the courtesy and respect my wife deserves, as well as honor our friendship. We agreed to resolve the issue amicably,” he said.
However, Uduaghan expressed disappointment that, despite their agreement, Natasha continues to face harassment.
“Despite our understanding, my wife has continued to express concerns about harassment from the Senate President,” he noted.
Uduaghan reaffirmed his unwavering faith in his wife’s loyalty and commitment to their marriage, describing her as his greatest joy.
“I would never trade her for anything. Our marriage is grounded in love, compassion, and mutual respect,” he said.
He called on the Senate and the Senate President to treat his wife with the respect and dignity she deserves.
