NCX, Jigawa govt, REA sign MoU to drive agro-industrial development

The Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX), the Jigawa State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) have signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating agricultural industrialisation, improving food security and modernising Nigeria’s commodity trading ecosystem.
The agreement was signed at the Jigawa Investment Summit held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Dutse. The Chairman of the Nigeria Commodity Exchange, Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakar, led the NCX delegation to the summit alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Exchange, Anthony Atuche.
Governor Umar Namadi signed the agreement on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, while the Director-General of the Rural Electrification Agency signed for the agency. Anthony Atuche signed on behalf of the Nigeria Commodity Exchange.
Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi described the partnership as a strategic investment in Jigawa’s agricultural future, saying it would position the state as a major hub for agro-processing, commodity trading and value addition while creating jobs and attracting private sector investment.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Commodity Exchange, Alhaji Dalhatu Abubakar, said the agreement marked another milestone in efforts to build a modern and efficient commodity market capable of supporting farmers, processors, exporters and investors.
According to him, the partnership reflects the Exchange’s commitment to strengthening agricultural value chains through transparent, technology-driven commodity trading systems that improve market access and unlock financing opportunities for producers.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NCX, Anthony Atuche, said integrating the proposed facilities into the Exchange’s Warehouse Receipt System and electronic trading platform would provide farmers, aggregators and processors with structured market access, better price discovery and easier access to credit.
