NDC unveils timetable for 2027 primaries

…Fixes May 29 for presidential primary
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced the commencement of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for aspirants seeking to contest various elective positions on the platform of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party disclosed that the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and close on Monday, May 18, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming polls.
According to the timetable released by the party, the screening and interview of aspirants will hold from Tuesday, May 19, to Thursday, May 21, 2026. The exercise, the party noted, will determine the eligibility of aspirants to proceed with the purchase of Nomination Forms.
The NDC advised all aspirants to attend the screening exercise with relevant credentials and supporting documents to facilitate a smooth verification process.
The party further stated that the sale of Nomination Forms would commence immediately after the screening exercise, running from Thursday, May 21, to Saturday, May 23, 2026. Completed forms are expected to be submitted on or before Monday, May 25, 2026.
It added that appeals arising from the screening process would be entertained on May 25 and 26, while primary elections for various elective offices are scheduled to take place on May 27 and 28, 2026.
According to the timetable, the Presidential Primary Election of the party will hold on May 29, 2026, in Abuja, where delegates are expected to elect the party’s standard-bearer for the 2027 presidential election.
The NDC explained that aspirants seeking tickets for State Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be conducted at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja. The party also disclosed that governorship primaries would be conducted at the local government level.
