New Super Eagles coach Chelle to lead CHAN Eagles

The newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Sekou Chelle, will oversee the CHAN Eagles at next month’s 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. This was confirmed by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau.

“We have implemented a policy that whoever is appointed as the Super Eagles coach will also manage the CHAN Eagles,” Gusau stated in an interview. “We want players from the domestic league to be integrated into the Super Eagles.”

He further revealed that the CHAN Eagles will embark on an overseas training camp in preparation for the tournament.

Previously, the home-based Super Eagles were coached by Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, as Austin Eguavoen was unavailable due to medical treatment abroad.

However, with Chelle’s appointment, both local coaches are expected to work under the Frenchman.

The draw for the CHAN will take place on Wednesday, January 15, in Nairobi, Kenya, with the tournament running from February 1 to 28 across the three East African host nations.
