NFF invites US-based forward Chioma Okafor to Super Falcons’ WAFCON camp

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strengthened the Super Falcons’ squad ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) by extending an invitation to United States-based forward, Chioma Okafor.
Okafor, who plays for the University of Connecticut, is expected to join the Falcons’ training camp in Lisbon on Friday, June 20.
According to a letter from the NFF, the camp is part of preparations for WAFCON, with a series of warm-up matches planned, including a potential friendly against Portugal.
Born to a Malawian mother and a Nigerian father, Chioma made headlines on Thursday after the Malawian Football Federation confirmed that she has chosen to represent Nigeria at the senior international level.
Her inclusion is seen as a boost to the team’s attacking options, as the Super Falcons continue to rebuild and reinforce ahead of the continental tournament.
While the final squad list is yet to be released, the team is also expected to play against Ghana’s Black Queens during their training stint in Morocco.
The Super Falcons’ training camp in Portugal is scheduled to run from June 21 to June 25, 2025.
The NFF hopes the addition of new talent like Okafor will improve Nigeria’s chances of securing another WAFCON title.
