NFF to receive $600,000 if Chelle exits contract early

As uncertainty continues to surround the future of Eric Sékou Chelle as Super Eagles coach, it has been revealed that the tactician will pay Nigeria compensation should he eventually decide to quit the job.

Chelle has reportedly been targeted by some countries and clubs following his exploits with Nigeria, whom he led to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco.

There have been unconfirmed reports of the coach holding discussions with some of the suitors, although he has not publicly addressed the rumours.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) insists that the former Mali national team handler remains the Super Eagles coach, as he still has one year left on his two-year contract.

However, should Chelle eventually decide to leave, he will be required to pay compensation to the NFF for prematurely terminating his contract.

It was gathered that the compensation could exceed the value of his remaining contract, estimated at around $600,000, given that Chelle earns $50,000 per month. Such a move would be deemed a breach of contract.

During the week, the 48-year-old Chelle was linked with the vacant position at French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille. He is also reportedly being considered by countries such as Angola and Gabon.
