The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is saddened by the reported death of 105 individuals in the petrol tanker explosion in Majia town, Jigawa State, on Tuesday.
The Forum extended its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Jigawa State during this tragic incident, particularly to the families who lost loved ones and those who sustained injuries in the fire.
The condolence message from the Forum was contained in a statement signed by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Wednesday in Ilorin.
The NGF expressed concern over the reported circumstances of the incident and urged citizens to avoid taking advantage of petrol spills due to their volatility and inherent dangers.
“This unfortunate incident once again highlights the need for improved safety protocols in the handling of combustible materials like petrol, especially during unforeseen circumstances such as accidents,” the Forum stated.
“Our hearts go out to His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi, the people of the state, and the families affected by this incident. We ask Almighty Allah to grant them solace during this trying time and to admit the deceased to al-Jannah Firdaus,” it added.
