The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned the escalating hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, following a preemptive strike by Israel on Iranian territory.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed deep concern over the ongoing missile and aerial attacks exchanged by both nations.

The government warned that the retaliatory actions threaten civilian lives and regional stability, with wider implications for global peace, security, and economic progress.

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence and diplomacy, urging all parties to show restraint and choose dialogue over violence.

It further called on the United Nations Security Council to intensify efforts toward de-escalation and provide a neutral platform for meaningful dialogue.

“Nigeria stands ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace in the region,” said Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The statement stressed that military responses should not be a substitute for diplomacy and emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through mutual respect, negotiation, and adherence to international law.

Nigeria also reiterated its position in favor of multilateral engagement and regional cooperation as pathways to sustainable peace in the Middle East.
