Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the 2028 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Championships after defeating Tunisia in the bidding process.
The decision was reached at the ITTF Africa Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Nigeria secured 23 of the 38 delegates’ votes to emerge as the preferred host of the continental competition.
The development marks a significant milestone for Nigerian table tennis, as the country prepares to welcome Africa’s leading players for one of the continent’s premier table tennis competitions in 2028.
Nigeria’s successful bid reflects the confidence of the delegates in the country’s capacity to organise and deliver a championship that meets international standards.
Hosting the tournament is also expected to provide an opportunity to promote table tennis in Nigeria, strengthen the country’s standing in African sports and showcase its capacity to organise major international sporting events.
Further details, including the competition’s venue, dates and organisational arrangements, are expected to be announced in due course.
