Nigeria facilitated transfer of critically ill Gaza children to Egypt, UAE – Tuggar

Nigeria played a role in facilitating the transfer of critically ill infants from Gaza to neighboring countries for medical care, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has revealed.
Speaking at a ministerial press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Tuggar said the humanitarian effort followed international appeals for urgent medical assistance amid the worsening conditions in Gaza’s hospitals due to Israel’s ongoing military offensive against Hamas.
He explained that the Red Cross had approached Nigeria as a potential host for the affected infants.
However, due to the fragile health conditions of many of the children, including those born with heart conditions, Nigeria opted to use diplomatic channels to secure help from other nations.
“Our response was that we cannot take the risk of such infants in fragile conditions,” Tuggar said.
“That is why we decided the best thing for us to do was to use diplomacy to contact the governments of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt and impress upon them the need to take in these children, and that’s exactly what happened.”
