The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
In a statement signed by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the forum described Buhari’s death as a significant depletion in the ranks of Africa’s great leaders. It noted that Buhari was more than a former president or military ruler — he was a national icon of moral courage, character, and deep sense of duty.
The statement commended the late president’s humility, strategic patience, and modest lifestyle, saying he would be remembered for his enduring contributions to the nation and his personal integrity.
“We send our deepest condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the painful loss of his dear friend, compatriot, immediate predecessor, and fellow party man,” the statement read.
The forum also extended sympathy to former First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and the entire Buhari family, offering prayers for comfort during this difficult time.
It further commiserated with Governor Dikko Umar Radda and the people of Katsina State, describing the loss as a painful one for the state and the nation at large.
The NGF prayed for Allah’s mercy on the departed, asking that his grave be made spacious and full of light, and that he be admitted into Al-Jannah Firdaus, while granting the family and the nation the fortitude to bear the loss.
