Nigeria Police receive CNG buses, begin green energy transition for operational fleet

The Nigeria Police Force has received three specialised buses from the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV), marking the commencement of its transition to green energy-powered mobility.
The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday in Abuja, brought together senior officials from both organisations, including Executive Secretary of the NPF-TF, Mohammad Sheidu; CP Tony Emafale; Alhaji Sanusi Aliyu; QS Lawal Aliyu; and Oritsemi Banigo. The PI-CNG & EV delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Barrister Ismail Ahmed, OON, alongside other officials.
In his address, Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation to the NPF-TF and PI-CNG & EV for what he described as a strategic intervention aligned with global policing standards.

He noted that the adoption of CNG and electric mobility solutions would improve logistics management and enhance service delivery, adding that the new buses would be deployed to strengthen personnel mobility and welfare across police formations nationwide.
Disu also disclosed that plans were underway to establish internal conversion centres to support the long-term maintenance and expansion of the police’s green fleet, ensuring sustainability of the initiative.
Stakeholders at the event said the donation represents the first phase of a grand plan to modernise the Nigeria Police Force operational fleet, with emphasis on cost efficiency, sustainability, and reduced environmental impact across nationwide operations.
The ceremony concluded with the formal handover of vehicle keys and a tour of the buses, with officials describing the initiative as a step towards modern, cost-effective and environmentally friendly policing in Nigeria.
