Nigeria set to receive French leader Emmanuel Macron on state visit
President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, in Nigeria from October 28, 2026, for a state visit.
Sources told Western Post that the visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and France, particularly in trade, investment and economic cooperation.
Officials from the French presidency have also arrived in Nigeria to meet with their Nigerian counterparts and finalise arrangements for Macron’s visit.
The planned visit comes nearly two years after Tinubu travelled to France for a three-day state visit hosted by Macron in November 2024.
During that visit, the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including financing, energy transition, solid minerals, trade, investment and communications, among other areas of bilateral cooperation.
According to the sources, Macron’s forthcoming visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to consolidate existing partnerships and identify new areas for expanding trade and investment.
Macron has maintained close relations with Tinubu since the Nigerian president assumed office in 2023, while Tinubu has visited France several times for official engagements, working visits and private trips.
Macron last visited Nigeria as French president in July 2018, when he met then-President Muhammadu Buhari and visited the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos.
