Nigeria to participate in second Indonesia-Africa forum, led by Information Minister

The Honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the head of Nigeria’s delegation to the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia, from September 1st to 3rd, 2024.

This year’s forum, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2023,” draws inspiration from the historic 1955 Asian-African Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference. The original conference, hosted by Indonesia, marked a significant chapter in Asian-African solidarity and collaboration. The current theme aims to enhance the synergy between Indonesia’s Vision 2045 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

“I look forward to representing His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the government and people of Nigeria at the Second Indonesia Africa Forum,” stated the Minister, in a disclosure on Sunday.

“I am confident that the forum will serve as another significant milestone in strengthening the bonds between Indonesia and Nigeria, as well as the broader African continent,” he added.

Nigeria and Indonesia have maintained a strong and friendly relationship over the years. In recognition of Nigeria’s economic potential, Indonesia has designated Nigeria as its primary African investment destination from 2022 to 2026. The trade volume between the two countries reached USD 6 billion in 2023, a significant increase from USD 4 billion a decade ago.

Indonesia’s commitment to Nigeria is also evident in its donation of 1.58 million doses of the Pentavalent vaccine, valued at nearly USD 2 million, in 2023. This contribution has been crucial in protecting Nigerian children from life-threatening diseases.

During his time in Indonesia, the Minister of Information will highlight Nigeria’s investment potential across various sectors and emphasize the socio-economic benefits of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He will also seek opportunities for Nigerian businesses to engage more actively in the Indonesian economy.
