Ojukwu’s biopic ‘Other Side of History’ to premiere at TIFF 2024

Nigerian filmmaker Onyeka Nwelue’s biopic on the late Emeka Ojukwu, titled Other Side of History, is set for its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 12, 2024.

This highly anticipated film offers a compelling look into Nigeria’s pre-independence era, focusing on the enigmatic life of Emeka Ojukwu, the charismatic leader of Biafra. Nwelue guides the audience through Ojukwu’s flamboyant lifestyle, his passion for highlife music, and his interactions with key figures of his time.

According to Nwelue, the film also highlights Ojukwu’s captivating personality, featuring scenes of him hosting lavish parties and inviting renowned musicians like E.T. Mensah and Bobby Benson to perform.

Other Side of History boasts a stellar cast, including Makinde Adeniran as Wole Soyinka, Emeka Darlington as Chinua Achebe, and Hero Daniels as Chris Okigbo. The film also features Emeka Okoye as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ugo Stevenson as Philip Effiong, and Jammal Ibrahim as Yakubu Gowon.

The biopic challenges viewers to reconsider the legacies of Ojukwu, Soyinka, and their contemporaries, presenting them as individuals deeply influenced by the unique circumstances of their time.
