Nigerian Army to establish new battalion in Ekiti

The Nigerian Army is set to establish a new battalion in Ikere-Ekiti, with the deployment of personnel and materials already underway.

Outgoing Commander of the 12 Brigade, Lokoja, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, disclosed this on Monday during a courtesy visit to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, in Ado-Ekiti.

The visit also included senior military officers such as the new Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi; the Commanding Officer of the new battalion; and the Garrison Commander of the 32 Brigade, Colonel Kyari Babakura.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Special Adviser, Yinka Oyebode, the Army officials were in the state to inspect the newly established barracks in Ikere-Ekiti ahead of the deployment.

They expressed satisfaction with the barracks’ location and assured the governor that personnel deployment would commence at a temporary base immediately. However, they requested a larger space to accommodate the troops.

Major General Fadairo emphasized that the new 148 Battalion would enhance security in Ekiti State, particularly in areas bordering Kogi and Ondo states. He urged residents to support the military’s efforts in combating insecurity.

Governor Oyebanji welcomed the development, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening security in Ekiti. He expressed confidence that the new formation would further position the state as an ideal location for living, working, and investment.
