Nigerian players shine across European leagues

It was another action-packed weekend for Nigeria’s Super Eagles players across Europe, with several players making key contributions for their clubs in the Premier League, Championship, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and La Liga.

Iwobi Strikes as Fulham Stun Liverpool

Alex Iwobi was on the scoresheet for Fulham in their thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday. The Super Eagles midfielder registered a goal and an assist in the game, as he continues to impress with eight goals and five assists so far. His compatriot, Calvin Bassey, also featured in the game, making his 29th appearance and scoring one goal.

Elsewhere, Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo were in action for Southampton as their relegation was confirmed following a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham. Onuachu has scored four goals in 21 appearances this season, while Aribo has featured 30 times, netting three goals.

Championship: Iheanacho Pulls Strings for Middlesbrough

Kelechi Iheanacho was instrumental for Middlesbrough in their 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Friday. The Nigerian forward provided both assists, continuing his fine form after scoring earlier in the week against Oxford United. His creativity is proving vital for Boro as they chase promotion.

Bundesliga: Boniface and Tella Help Leverkusen Edge Heidenheim

In Germany, Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella both featured for Bayer Leverkusen in a narrow 1-0 win over Heidenheim. Boniface, in his 17th league outing, has now scored eight goals and provided one assist this season. Tella, making his 21st appearance, has two goals. Both players were substituted in the second half after solid performances.

Ligue 1: Moses Simon Sparks Nantes’ Victory

Moses Simon was once again a creative force for Nantes, providing his ninth assist of the season in their 2-1 away win over Nice. He’s also chipped in with seven goals across 26 appearances. Serie A: Dele-Bashiru Shines, Ebuehi Returns

In Italy, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru recorded an assist for Lazio’s match-winner in their 1-0 triumph over Atalanta. The 24-year-old has now contributed three goals and one assist in 18 Serie A games this season. Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman also played in the match but was substituted in the 74th minute. Lookman boasts 13 goals in 25 league appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Tyronne Ebuehi made his long-awaited return from injury, coming on in the 65th minute as Empoli drew 0-0 with Cagliari. It marked his first appearance of the season after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in March 2024.

La Liga: Uche Dazzles with Two Assists for Getafe

In Spain, Christantus Uche delivered a standout performance, registering two assists in Getafe’s 4-0 demolition of Real Valladolid. The Nigerian forward now has five goals and eight assists in 28 appearances this season, underlining his growing influence in La Liga.
