Nigeria’s CAF campaign: Rivers Utd shine as Kwara, Abia exit

By Tosin Omojola –
Kwara United FC of Ilorin were on Sunday knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Ashanti Kotoko of Ghana.
The Nigerian side bowed out after losing 0-1 to the Ghanaians, suffering a 3-5 aggregate defeat, having lost the first leg 3-4 in Accra last Sunday.
Nigeria’s other representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Abia Warriors, also failed to advance as they lost 0-1 to FC Djoliba of Mali.
The two sides had drawn 1-1 in Uyo, meaning the Malians progressed with a 2-1 aggregate win.
However, it was a positive result in the CAF Champions League as Rivers United joined Remo Stars in the next stage after beating Les Aigles du Congo of DR Congo 1-0.
Rivers United, who had held the Congolese to a goalless draw in the first leg in Kinshasa, advanced courtesy of Stephen Manyo’s goal late in the first half.
Rivers United will now face Black Bulls of Mozambique in the next round of the competition.
