Nigeria’s number-one women’s squash player, Rofiat Abdulazeez, has revealed her ambition to break into the world’s top 50 in 2025.

The Nigerian is currently ranked 133rd by the World Squash Federation.

In a recent interview, Abdulazeez expressed her determination to improve her global ranking this year.

“I am currently ranked 133 in the world, but it is my desire to be among the top 50 players in the world this year,” she said.

The National Sports Festival singles gold medallist described 2024 as one of her most successful years in terms of performance.

Despite facing challenges, Abdulazeez expressed pride in her achievements.

“2024 was one of the most outstanding years for me in terms of performance. Irrespective of the challenges that arose, I played squash at its peak and delivered strong performances,” she stated.

Abdulazeez highlighted her proudest moment of 2024, which was seeing four athletes from her home state of Kwara represent Nigeria at the 2024 All-African Championship in Windhoek, Namibia.

“My best moments in 2024 were when I had the opportunity to represent my country. It was even more special knowing that four of us from Kwara, my home state, were selected to represent Nigeria,” she said.

Looking ahead, Abdulazeez has her sights set on representing Nigeria at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

“My aspiration is to represent Nigeria at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, but to achieve this, I need sponsorship, self-confidence, and encouragement to improve and reach new heights in 2025,” she added.
