Nnadozie, Madugu earn Ballon d’Or nominations

By Tosin Omojola –
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have continued their winning momentum beyond the pitch, following the nomination of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and head coach Justin Madugu for prestigious Ballon d’Or awards.
The recognition comes on the heels of the team’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they clinched their fifth consecutive and seventh overall continental title.
Nnadozie, named Best Goalkeeper at the tournament, has been shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy, which honours the world’s best goalkeepers. The 23-year-old, who recently transferred from Paris FC to English Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion, is also the reigning African Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
She will contest the award alongside Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC/Germany), Catalina Coll (Barcelona/Spain), Hannah Hampton (Chelsea/England), and Daphne van Domselaar (Arsenal/Netherlands).
Last season, Nnadozie recorded 17 clean sheets in 31 appearances for Paris FC, won the Coupe de France, and played a key role in helping the club reach the league playoffs.
Madugu’s nomination for the Women’s Coach of the Year category recognises his tactical acumen and leadership in steering the Super Falcons to continental glory.
The winners will be announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony later this year.
