Nnamdi Azikiwe University launches investigation into lecturer-student incident

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has launched a formal investigation into an incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye of the Theatre Arts and Film Studies Department and Goddy Mbakwe, a third-year student in the History and International Studies Department.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O., emphasized the institution’s commitment to transparency and justice.

According to the statement, the incident, which has drawn significant attention on social media, is being treated with urgency by the university. It added that the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has directed a thorough and impartial investigation in line with the university’s core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence.

“We urge all concerned parties and the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth. The university will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the investigation’s outcome,” the statement read.

The university reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining high moral and ethical standards, noting that there is no room for misconduct or indiscipline within the institution.
