No Abuja houses in 2026 budget- Lagos Assembly insists

The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports alleging that it made provisions in the 2026 budget to purchase houses in Abuja for its members.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, and the Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, the Assembly clarified that no funds were allocated for the purchase of houses in Abuja or any other location outside Lagos State, describing the report as false, baseless and politically motivated.
The Assembly described the allegation as illogical, noting that it would be unreasonable to deploy public funds for personal housing for lawmakers outside the state.
It further reminded the public that the full details of the 2026 budget are publicly accessible and clearly reflect the government’s commitment to meeting the needs of Lagos residents while ensuring prudent and responsible management of resources.
According to the statement, the capital expenditure allocated to the House of Assembly in the 2026 budget represents less than 0.04 per cent of the state’s total capital spending.
The lawmakers said this underscores the Assembly’s commitment to fiscal discipline and accountability, adding that in previous fiscal years, the House often did not exhaust its approved capital allocations.
The Assembly urged Lagos residents to disregard the misleading reports and rely solely on official sources for accurate and verified information.
It also warned that individuals or groups spreading the claims risk legal action if they fail to substantiate the allegations with credible evidence.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, good governance and the welfare of Lagosians, in line with the objectives of the 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity.
