Food critic Opeyemi Famakin unbothered by David Hundeyin’s criticism

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has responded to renowned investigative journalist David Hundeyin’s criticism of his work on X (formerly Twitter).

David Hundeyin had questioned Opeyemi’s credibility on his X page, describing him as a reaction-content creator who claims to be a food critic.

In response, Opeyemi posted a video on X-space, stating that he is unbothered by the criticism. He added that being dragged on X only gives him more recognition and opportunities.

“The numbering keeps getting higher. People on X give me more clout than I asked for. Brands see the posts and trace them to my Instagram page. The more they drag me, the more relevant I become,” he said.

He further explained that online attacks often prompt curious brands and food business owners to check him out on Instagram, exposing his reach and engagement to them, including testimonials from businesses claiming his posts boosted their sales.

Opeyemi also noted that while some people complain about his harsh criticism, there are reserved food critics who fit the “acceptable” style — yet they do not receive the same visibility or support he gets.

Opeyemi Famakin is a food journalist who considers himself one of the biggest food critics in Nigeria. He grew up in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State and studied Mass Communication at UNILAG, majoring in Journalism. After graduation, he worked as a lifestyle journalist, writing about food and other topics.

He eventually became an editor before switching to advertising and later venturing into food criticism due to his love for food. He often receives backlash on social media for his blunt style of critique.
