No WAFCON funds for NFF until Falcons are paid, says Dikko

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has directed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) not to access any part of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) prize money until players and officials of the Super Falcons are fully paid their entitlements.

Dikko emphasized that 30% of Nigeria’s total tournament earnings must be set aside and disbursed to the players and technical crew as their official share, regardless of the team’s final standing in the competition.

Nigeria is guaranteed at least $300,000 for a fourth-place finish. That figure could rise to $350,000 with a bronze medal, $500,000 for silver, and up to $1 million if the Super Falcons win the tournament.

“The girls have worked hard and deserve every kobo of their share. The NFF must ensure they receive their rightful earnings before any other expenditure is considered,” Dikko said.

His directive comes amid growing concerns over transparency and the timely payment of bonuses in Nigerian football. The NSC boss said such issues must not be allowed to resurface during this tournament.
