NOA, EFCC to launch national digital awareness campaign to combat cybercrime

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are set to roll out a nationwide sensitisation campaign aimed at addressing the surge in cybercrime and virtual investment fraud across Nigeria.

The initiative was announced during a public lecture organised by the EFCC to mark the African Union Anti-Corruption Day. Speaking at the event, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed that the campaign will focus on promoting financial integrity and educating Nigerians, particularly the youth, about the dangers of digital fraud.

Issa-Onilu explained that selected states would be targeted based on indicators such as the prevalence of investment scams, youth population density, and levels of digital exposure. He noted that the campaign will also include a youth-focused component designed to instill ethical entrepreneurship and responsible financial behaviour.

As part of the broader anti-crime strategy, Issa-Onilu highlighted the importance of NOA’s AI-powered platform, CLHEEAN, which enables citizens to anonymously report crime-related information. Submitted reports are directed to relevant security agencies for prompt action.

EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to working closely with NOA on public enlightenment and anti-corruption efforts. He urged Nigerians to support law enforcement agencies by cooperating in the fight against financial crimes.

The campaign, according to both agencies, will leverage grassroots outreach, digital platforms, and institutional partnerships to maximise its impact and reach vulnerable populations.

Key stakeholders who participated in the lecture included the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama; Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji; and representatives from the Women Society of Nigeria and various civil society organisations.

The nationwide campaign is expected to commence in the coming weeks, reinforcing the federal government’s drive to strengthen accountability, deter cybercrime, and build a more financially literate society.
