NOA seeks support for voter education ahead of Osun governorship poll

The Osun State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has intensified its voter education campaign ahead of the 2026 governorship election, urging traditional institutions to support efforts aimed at promoting peaceful, credible and inclusive participation in the electoral process.

As part of the campaign, the State Director of the agency, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, on Tuesday led the agency’s management team on an advocacy visit to the palace of the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, CON.

The delegation included Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers from Iwo, Ayedire and Olaoluwa Local Government Areas, as well as the second-in-command of the WAI Brigade, Osun State Command.

Speaking during the visit, Adefarasin said the advocacy was designed to secure the support of traditional rulers in strengthening voter education ahead of the governorship election while also sensitising the palace on the agency’s flagship National Values Charter initiative.

He described traditional rulers as critical stakeholders in mobilising citizens to embrace civic responsibility, participate peacefully in elections and promote national values at the grassroots level.

The NOA director also urged residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and security conscious, stressing that tackling the country’s security challenges requires the collective efforts of all citizens.

Responding, the Olowu of Kuta commended the National Orientation Agency, under the leadership of its Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, for sustaining public enlightenment and civic engagement programmes. He pledged the support of the Kuta Kingdom toward ensuring a peaceful, credible and value-driven governorship election in the state.

The monarch also appealed to the Federal Government to prioritise funding for the agency by making its allocation a first-line charge, noting that adequate funding would enable the NOA to discharge its statutory responsibilities more effectively across the country.
