NOA set for nationwide campaign on critical national issues

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has set all modalities in motion for the commencement of a nationwide sensitisation campaign to address the most pressing and critical issues confronting communities across Nigeria.

The Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday that the two-week campaign will be held simultaneously across the 774 local government areas of the country, beginning on August 20.

The civic engagement drive is intended not only to close perceived gaps in awareness and correct misinformation and harmful practices that threaten the country’s safety and progress but also to bring into focus all the details about the key government initiatives of the last two years.

“This is not just another campaign – it is a coordinated national awakening that touches the very heart of our identity, safety, values and development,” Issa-Onilu said.

While emphasising the need for such intensive civic engagement, “at a period of massive reforms the country is embarking on in the economy, which has seen the last two years stabilising the macroeconomy, and as Nigeria is preparing to transition into microeconomy management, Nigeria stands at a defining moment,” Issa-Onilu noted.

The DG noted that the agency is mobilising all its personnel and other resources to disseminate crucial information in the five thematic areas of government policies, national values, security awareness, disaster preparedness and national identity.

He urged the citizens to support the programmes and policies of government for overall development and called on the media, traditional rulers, civil society groups, community stakeholders and student groups to collaborate with the NOA to build “a safer, stronger and more united Nigeria,” Issa-Onilu concluded.
