Nollywood actor Kunle Remi blames Nigerians for Lagos flooding

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has expressed frustration over the recurring flooding in Lagos, blaming Nigerians for the persistent problem.

In a video shared on his Instagram Story on Monday, the actor said he had seen several reports of flooding in different parts of Lagos State, noting that the situation is no longer limited to the Island but has spread to major areas on the mainland.

Blaming residents for the flooding, he said, “Let’s call a spade a spade. Nigerians are dirty people; that’s why there’s flooding everywhere”.

The thespian, famous for his role as Saro in Anikulapo, criticised the indiscriminate disposal of refuse into drainage channels and on roads, saying the habit contributes to flooding. He described the behaviour as “dirty” and urged Nigerians to speak out against it.

“Let’s stop throwing trash into the drainage. We are not animals. Be vigilant. When you see people doing it, speak up against it and correct them,” he said.

According to him, speaking up against the habit will help improve the situation, noting that flooding has continued to disrupt movement and business activities.

“If all of us who are conscious about it speak up and correct those doing it, it will be better. It is just dirtiness,” he added.

Kunle also urged motorists to prepare ahead for flooding before driving out, advising them to use vehicles suitable for flooded roads to avoid being stranded.
