Nollywood, cultural icon Harris Chuma-Odili passes on

Nollywood and media practitioner, Dr. Harris Udokama Chuma-Odili, popularly known as Ogene Ogbunike, has passed away.

The cultural ambassador, who hailed from Ogbunike community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, reportedly slumped and died on Saturday during a public function in his hometown.

Confirming his death, the family issued a statement expressing deep sorrow while celebrating his remarkable life of service, cultural stewardship, and commitment to truth, justice, and community upliftment.

“With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of the Almighty and our ancestors, we announce the transition of our illustrious son, father, brother, community leader, and custodian of culture, Eze Odinana Ogbunike, Dr. Harris Udokama Chuma-Odili (Ogene Ogbunike), Founder of Anambra Core Media Advocates, who joined his ancestors on 23rd August, 2025,” the statement read.

The family described him as a man whose life embodied dedication to cultural preservation and media advocacy, noting that his contributions left indelible marks on his community and beyond.

“As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, we also celebrate his remarkable life of service, cultural stewardship, and commitment to truth, justice, and community upliftment,” the family added.

They further appealed for prayers, solidarity, and support from friends, associates, and well-wishers as they navigate the difficult period.

The family noted that details of the traditional and funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
