Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie opens up on health struggles, difficulty walking

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has opened up about his physical struggles and health condition during a visit to his ailing friend, Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah.

Edochie, who is in Ghana for a movie project, made the disclosure during a conversation with Armah’s wife, where it was revealed that the actor had been battling an ailment for 11 years. He then opened up about his own health struggles, saying he currently finds it difficult to walk unaided due to swelling in his hands and legs.

In a video from the visit, Edochie said, “Sitting down here, I’m not very well, myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself.”

He added that he sometimes wakes up with swollen parts of his body, which later subside, making mobility difficult.

“Sometimes I get up and parts of my body are swollen and after some time they go down again. Like my hand is swollen now, my leg…” he said.

Edochie also prayed that whenever God deems it right to take him, he would be ready, saying he did not want to become a burden to those around him.

“I just keep asking God, ‘You are the author of life. Whenever you feel it is time for me to go, just take me. Don’t let me bother the people who are around me. So, just take me,’” he added.

Edochie was recently in the limelight over a controversial statement on Bae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask, where he claimed that no living actor could challenge him as the pioneer who put African theatre on the global stage before the advent of Nollywood.
